Did you know that November is World Quality Month? To celebrate, Whyy? Change have been speaking to their industry experts on what Quality means to them and the importance of quality management systems.

What is World Quality Day?

World Quality Day is all about showcasing the vital role quality professionals have in achieving excellence through quality and the positive impact quality has made in organisations around the world. Today we’re celebrating the success of one of our own… Russ Parramore FBCI, M.ISRM!

Who is Russ Parramore?

Russ is a Business Resilience tutor for us at Whyy? Change and brings a wealth of experience in the Quality industry. He’s spent over 30 years with South Yorkshire Police gaining experience in Operational Planning and Resilience amongst many other skills. Russ is also a Fellow of the Business Continuity Institute (FBCI) and attends regional and national Business Continuity Institute (BCI) Chapter events. Additionally, Russ is a Certified Lead Auditor for ISO 22301 and won the BCI European Continuity and Resilience Professional (Public Sector) award in 2016, 2017 and 2019.

Question Time

1. What does Quality mean to you?

In my 40 years of working in Emergencies, planning, response, recovery and continuity if there is one thing which I have learned above everything else it is the value of quality. Whatever I am doing I always try to do my best. If I am asked to complete a task I believe in completing it to the best of my ability. The results of any task whether self-initiated or otherwise have to be a quality product. That way I can gain the confidence of my peers, my customers and all my colleagues.

2. Why is Quality important to businesses?

All businesses, whatever the size, have been built up over time and all business owners will be aware just how difficult it is to develop and to make profit consistently. Business plans are made to help businesses to develop in a thought out and consistent manner. Most business owners will understand the importance of quality, whether that is the quality of their product, service or communication. The better the quality which the business provides then the better potential for exciting the customer and ultimately developing the business and making bigger profits.

3. What advice would you give to businesses looking to improve their Quality management?

If you own a business you will no doubt have spent many years building it up to a position where you are happy with how it performs. You may well have sufferred some set backs due to Covid-19 and hopefully the quality of your resilience and continuity plans will have ensured your survival. If you have spent a little bit of money in the past producing quality Business Continuity Plans then you will maybe even come back stronger and more prepared for the future.
